Sunday Speaker Series presents Along the River 2 with author David Bowles on January 27, 2013, at 2 p.m.
Author and editor David Bowles will read from the anthology, Along the River 2: More Voices from the Rio Grande Valley, at the Museum of South Texas History on Sunday, January 27, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. as part of the Sunday Speaker Series. The book will be available for purchase at the museum store after the presentation. Sales of the book will benefit the museum and Valley Artistic Outreach, a non-profit promoting artistic expression and art camps for children in the region.
A follow-up to the popular first volume, Along the River 2 presents over thirty authors with new short fiction, essays, and poetry reflecting the diversity of experiences within the lower Rio Grande Valley. “David Bowles has put together an extraordinary collection of works,” notes museum program officer Melissa Tijerina. “They not only reflect the many facets of life in the region, but they also highlight the depth and breadth of literary talent in the area.” Included among the collection’s numerous authors are Valley writers such as Bowles, Vanessa Brown, Christopher Carmona, Héctor Gómez, Rob Johnson, and Robert Paul Moreira.
In addition to the series of Along the River, Bowles has previously published The Seed: Stories from the River’s Edge, a collection of young adult fiction, written in collaboration with his wife, Angélica Maldonado. He is also the editor of Donna Hooks Fletcher: Life and Writings, and author of the book review column “Top Shelf” that appears in The Monitor.
The Sunday Speaker Series is included in the regular museum admission. FRIENDS of the Museum are admitted free as a benefit of FRIENDship.More Special Events
